Steam Train "Oliver Cromwell" to visit Buxton

Buxton Train Station is set to receive a visit by the steam locomotive "Oliver Cromwell" in May,  as visitors from London arrive in style.

The "Buxton Spa Express" will leave London Euston at 8am on the 25th of May 2013, hauled by Britannia class 4-6-2 'Pacific' steam locomotive No. 70013 "Oliver Cromwell",  and travel along several picturesque routes, stopping to pick up passengers at  Bletchley, Bedford and Melton Mowbray before bringing them to Buxton. The visitors will then have a couple of hours in Buxton, to see the town, before the Oliver Cromwell takes them on to Stockport before they finish their return journey by diesel locomotive.

For anyone wishing to see the train, the Buxton Spa Express will be taking the following route on the day: leaves London Euston at around 08:00, north up Camden Bank through Willesden to Watford Junction. Continue along the West Coast Main Line stopping at Bletchley, join the truncated Cambridge to Oxford line and travel cross-country to Bedford. Travel down the Midland Main Line to Kettering, stop for locomotive to take on water. Former Midland Railway Main Line for Nottingham, passing through Corby and climbing up to the Harringworth Viaduct, climb up to Wing Tunnel, downhill to Manton Junction, pass through Oakham, stop at Melton Mowbray before continuing along the Wreake Valley to the Midland Main Line at Syston North Junction. Pass through Loughborough and take the Erewash Valley line at Trent Junction to Chesterfield and Dronfield. Hope Valley Line at Dore South Junction, passing through Totley Tunnel into the Peak District. Pass through Edale en route to Buxton.

Approximate timings for stops are as follows London Euston 08:00, Watford Junction 08:25, Bletchley 09:00, Bedford 09:30, Kettering 10:30, Melton Mowbray 11:20 and Buxton 14:15.
